  • Age: Miocene Age 20 million yrs
  • Formation: Coral Deposits
  • Location: Hillsborough County, Florida
  • The original coral colonies of individual animals that make the coral heads and fingers have been totally replaced by silica. The exterior of the specimen preserves the coral shape and structure. The inside of the specimen is filled with botryoidal chalcedony, quartz, or agate. These are fossilized in many interesting shapes and colors. Tampa Bay Coral is becoming increasingly harder to obtain.
