While many of these animals lived alongside dinosaurs, and are often mistaken for members of that group, dinosaurs are differentiated by their upright posture, with legs positioned directly underneath their bodies. This makes animals like lizards, crocodilians, aquatic reptiles like mosasaurs, and even the flying pterosaurs, Ancient Reptiles, rather than dinosaurs.
