Description
Abyssomedon Bone Cluster, Permian Age
Species: Abyssomedon williamsi
Age: Lower Permian, 280 million years old
Location: Richards Spur, Oklahoma, USA
Formation of Origin: Dolese Quarry
Abyssomedon was an early reptile from Oklahoma about the size of a small lizard, like an anole or fence lizard. While little is known about them, we can guess that they would have been semi-arboreal, preferring to stay either high up or underground to avoid predators during this tumultuous time in Earth’s history for land animals.
This cluster is most likely from an Abyssomedon due to the origin and size of the bones; however, it is not known for certain which little lizard these belonged to. This opens up a path for greater discovery as you can do more research and attempt to discern each bone for yourself if you so wish.
