Description
Ammonite with Suture Patterns (260212q)
Name: Cleoniceras cleon
Age: Cretaceous Age
Formation: Albian Formation
Location: Madagascar
This is a great fossil with excellent suture marks showing where the various air chambers were in the shell while the ammonite was alive. They would use these chambers like a submarine to lower or raise their position in the water column while drifting around. These have beautiful colors thanks to the minerals that filled and replaced the organic material of the shell after the animal perished.
