This is a great display piece with two 7 inch long belemites from Germany. These are the remains of squid-like animals from the Jurassic period, 190 million years ago. While alive, the soft parts of the squid, like the head and tentacles, would extend from the flared base of the structure to help the animal feel and propel itself. After death, these soft parts were washed away, leaving only the harder sections around to fossilize.
