Large Authentic Spinosaurus Dinosaur Tooth (260413b)

Species: Spinosaurus aegyptiacus

Age: Cretaceous Age 100 million years

Formation: Kem Kem Fossil Beds

Location: Taouz, Morocco

The name Spinosaurus aegyptiacus can be translated as “Egyptian Spine-backed Lizard,” a title earned from its most prominent feature: a sail. This could reach up to 5.5 feet tall and stretch across most of the animal’s body, likely as a way to keep cool in its muggy swamp and marshland habitat. While initially believed to be mainly a bipedal land hunter like the T. rex, new fossil evidence now shows that Spinosaurus had much stubbier legs and a paddle-shaped tail. These are traits seen in aquatic hunters, making the animal far more similar to modern-day crocodiles. This is further supported by their conical teeth, which are perfectly adapted for hunting fish.

  •  Due to their location and material, Spinosaurus teeth are often brittle and can break easily. These specimens have already been hardened to avoid this in the future, but minor cracks and repairs in the field are common practice and don’t detract much from their overall value.
