Description
Mosasaurus Skull
Species: mosasaurus sp.
Age: Late Cretaceous Period, 82-66 Million Years Old
Location: Morocco, North Africa
Formation of Origin: Oulad Abdoun Basin
For millions of years, mosasaurs were the dominant ocean predators, with dozens of different species throughout the world specializing in various niches. From the massive Tylosaurs who preyed on large aquatic life and other mosasaurs to shell crushers with specially adapted “acron-shaped” teeth built to crush turtle shells.
This skull is a composite specimen, meaning that while all the materials are real fossils, they are more than likely from different animals rather than the same individual. This is great from a customer’s standpoint; however, a complete skull could cost up to 22,000 USD. In this way, incredible display specimens like this one are still accessible to collectors without having to spend tens of thousands of dollars. Despite being a composite with around 45% restoration, this skull is in a beautiful collection, and it’s hard to tell where the bone ends and the reconstruction begins to the untrained eye.
This skull is 20 inches long and 24 inches tall when mounted on the custom metal stand. It detaches into three sections for ease of transportation, comprised of the top section and each half of the lower jaw. If you purchase this piece, we will include instructions for reassembling the fossil, but it is very simple and easy to follow.
Offer includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
