Description

Sperm Whale Tooth (251208a)

Species: Physeteroidea indet.

Age: Miocene Epoch, 23 million years old

Location: Cooper River, Charleston, South Carolina

These teeth were discovered while diving in the rivers and bays of South Carolina, which helps to explain their intact nature. Oftentimes, if these teeth wash ashore, they are heavily damaged from wave and tidal action. These whales were around during the same time as Megalodon and often fell prey to it, as evidenced by rib bones and other remains with shark bite marks. But as you can see from he size and shape of the teeth, the whales were not defenseless.

This tooth is in excellent condition and has been sealed with mineral oil for preservation.

The offer includes a float frame stand and Certificate of Authenticity.

What our customers say

I've recently made two separate purchases: a Hardouinia echinoid, and a two part purchase of a Paralejurus trilobite and a Cupulocrinus crinoid. Each shipment was packaged very securely, and the specimens themselves are delightful. I primarily collect echinoids, and I've been on the search for a North Carolina Hardouinia that was different from the Hardouinia mortonis that have been washing up on Holden Beach. This was certainly a good one, with a very nice pattern! The trilobite and the crinoid were of pretty good quality as well, and the trilobite even had a little bonus one embedded into the matrix as well. Each fossil came with a nice paper COA to boot. There are a lot of good quality fossils here, and I will definitely be keeping my eye on this shop. Thank you again for the fossils!
