One of the most iconic dinosaurs in the world, Triceratops is best known for the three large horns on its head, a trait which is also its namesake, as Triceratops quite literally means “Three-horned Face” in Greek. Other than the horns and beak, a triceratops frill was its most valuable asset, allowing them to show off their power to deter predators and attract potential mates. Triceratops frill is easily distinguished by the blood grooves, low trenches in the bone, which would have functioned like channels where veins and nerves would have flowed throughout the subdermal layer.
