Description
Triple Sister Cut Arizona Petrified Wood
Species: Araucaria sp.
Age: Triassic, 230 million years old
Formation: Chinle Formation
Location: Navajo County, Arizona, USA
Petrified wood forms when wood falls into an environment with very little air, usually a lake or bog. Over time, the wood itself is replaced by mineral-rich sediment and hardens into rock. The colors of the petrified wood are determined by the locationa nd the minerals involved in its formation. The colors present also usually dictate the quality and rarity of the fossil, with yellows, blues, and blacks being the most uncommon and sought after.
A sister cut is when a group of specimens was cut from the same log and line up in sequence; this usually happens in sets of two. However, this offer is for three sequential slices of rare yellow petrified wood. The yellow coloration is a result of uranium ore being the chief mineralizing element, but don’t worry, it’s no longer radioactive :)
Our fossils have been sliced, polished, and then sealed with mineral oil to bring out those beautiful natural colors.
The offer includes three stands and a Certificate of Authenticity
