Description
Giant Armadillo Femur (260124f)
Species: Holmesina sp.
Age: Pleistocene, 1.9 million years old
Location: Florida, USA
Weighing up to 119 lbs and reaching lengths of over 6 1/2 feet long, holmesina definitely earned the name giant armadillo. While not as large as the more famous Glyptodont, these guys behaved in a very similar fashion, relying on low vegetation and insects for survival. Though scutes are relatively common finds, bones of giant armadillos are much rarer making this an excellent opportunity to add a truly iconic mammal to your collection.
